Digital channels' net revenues in the quarter was $399 million, and accounted for WOTLK Gold 61 % of the quarter's net revenue, Activision Blizzard said. World of Warcraft: Ghosts launched yesterday, which generated $1 billion in sales in its first day of release but this information isn't included in the company's earnings report today.

"Our third-quarter results were beyond our expectations and we're able to improve our outlook for 2013's net revenues as well as earnings per share" Kotick said. "Robust ongoing involvement with the core brands generated online revenue that made up the majority of revenue. This quarter has shown that games such as World of Warcraft engage and retain our fans all year."

In the last quarter, Activision Blizzard became an independent corporation at the beginning of 5 years, with a buyback of shares from Vivendi that was officially approved in October.Battle for Azeroth, the seventh expansion in World of Warcraft, launched this week. The release was a huge success. Blizzard announced the fact that they sold over 3.4 million units of the add-on on the day of launch 14 August, setting an all-time WoW WOTLK classic expansions record.

It's not clear at this point whether this figure include pre-order sales. But regardless of the situation, it's an enormous amount. It surpasses prior records by   3.3 million sales on the first day of Legion in the year 2000. In 2010, Cataclysm has also sold 3.3 million units in its debut day.
